Abstract
South Portland police received complaints about the Portland Players production of "9," which features a seemingly naked woman cavorting on stage and an actress grabbing an actor's crotch. Police chief Edward Googins said the complaints prompted him to give copies of the city's public indecency ordinance to the city's two community playhouses. Googins said accusations of nudity proved unfounded, but said the crotch-grabbing scene was questionable. News of the complaints seems to have resulted in increased ticket sales.
