Abstract
Strawberries Records and Tapes, a music chain with an outlet in South Portland, filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code on February 19. Rustic Overtones, a popular funk-rock band in Portland, placed hundreds of its compact discs on consignment with Strawberries in 1996, and is now out several thousand dollars. Bill Beasley, manager of Rustic Overtones, said Strawberries promised to pay the band for the CDs, but so far he hasn't received any money. Brent Wickard of Bull Moose Music said his chain of five stores protects local bands by establishing accounts where money is set aside to pay bills in the event of problems.
