Abstract
"City" piece on the Casco Bay Island Transit District, which might be forced to reduce the number of trips between Portland and several islands in order to balance the budget. Nine office workers at CBITD this month voted to unionize because they fear they may face pay cuts. Ferry officials say negotiating contracts with the new union members could cost as much as $20,000 in legal fees. The need to replace aging vessels adds to cash problems at the district.
