Abstract
"City" piece on the contract between Regional Waste Systems (RWS) and Central Maine Power Co. (CMP). The agreement, under which CMP purchases power from RWS, runs through 2008, but doesn't specify the price paid for power after 2000. If the price drops from the current average of 7.8 cents per kilowatt hour, as CMP officials suggest it will, Greater Portland residents could be forced to cover the lost income through higher property taxes. RWS and CMP are currently negotiating on the issue. Details.
