Abstract
"City" piece on the defeat of a measure that would have created a charter commission in Portland. Don Meehan of Portland Citizens for an Elected Mayor said the fact that 6,100 voters supported the creation of a charter commission means the city council should do something in response. Portland Mayor George Campbell said the measure's defeat shows that voters have faith in the current system of city government.
