Abstract
Profile of Allie McCormack, 43, a Portland attorney who does volunteer work as a court-appointed special advocate. Maine's CASA program was established in 1985 under the state Child and Family Services and Child Protection Act, and is run out of an office in West Bath District Court. The program has two employees overseeing nearly 200 volunteers who are assigned to 700 children, and has an annual budget of $128,000. CASA volunteers act as guardians ad litem in civil child abuse and neglect cases, and work closely with the Maine Department of Human Services and the Maine Attorney General's Office.
