Feature article on living single in Maine. The percentage of single-person households in the United States nearly doubled between 1960 and 1996. Economics professor Michael Hillard says people are delaying getting married and having children for economic reasons. The number of marriages in Maine has declined from 12,388 in 1982 to 10,978 in 1994. Details.
