Abstract
"City" piece on South Portland City Councilor Birger Johnson, who asked city attorney Mary Kahl to draft a proposed ordinance banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in housing, employment, credit and public accommodation. Sixty percent of South Portland voters supported the state's gay-rights law. South Portland is the seventh municipality to consider a local gay rights law since the state law was repealed in February.
