Abstract
The Maine State Bar Association has started to anonymously survey Maine's lawyers about the performance of all judges in the second or the fifth year of their seven-year terms. Kristen Gustafson, who chairs the association's Judicial Evaluation Committee, says the results of the second-year survey will remain confidential, and that release of the fifth-year survey is "an open question," despite pressure from those who think the information should be made available. Gustafson hopes the survey will also help judges, who are often isolated from feedback, to improve their performances.
