Abstract
The U. S. Postal Service's new distribution center project, proposed for an ecologically vulnerable Rand Road site in Portland, might be moved to Lewiston-Auburn. The project project has been stalled by attempts of Portland city councilors' attempts to remove the site Rand Road site from consideration, possibly by taking the land by eminent domain. Portland officials view the postal service's threat to move the center out of Portland as a ploy to force the city's cooperation.
