Abstract

Darren Thomas leaders an employee effort to unionize the Portland YMCA, and 14 employees have written a letter stating that the organization is suffers from disrespectful mangers who are confused about their mission. Employees also contend that management spends too little time raising money. The Y's board has rejected efforts by employees to have their union recognized, saying the change would be too drastic and expensive. Robert Oickle, the executive director for almost a decade, has declined comment.
