Abstract
"Edge" piece on how snowmobile enthusiasts are responding to the signs of winter that are in the air, with special focus on Mark DeWever, 44, a salesman, and his co-worker, Steve Fox, 39, who both work at Street Cycles, a motocycle and snowmobile shop in Falmouth, where the snowmobile sales and repair business increases as temperatures decrease. DeWever sells new snowmobiles that range in price from about $3,500 to a $9,600 model that can reach speeds of up to 120 miles an hour. Statistics show that on average, about 10 people die in snowmobile accidents each year in Maine, with speed and alcohol often contributing factors.
