Abstract
"Edge" piece on three new venues for Portland's theater scene: the Fine Arts Theater, a former adult film emporium, which Michael Whittaker and Dave Severance are transforming into a multimedia art house; the St. Lawrence Church, which the Friends of the St. Lawrence Church are converting to a performance space, among other uses; and the new Portland Performing Arts space on Longfellow Square, which artistic director Beau Graves says will provide a common roof for artists currently scattered around town. The three will try to reach different niche markets in order to survive in Portland's possibly overcrowded art scene.
