Abstract
Maine Yankee spokesperson Marshall Murphy says the estimated bill for closing the nuclear power plant has increased from $167 million to $316 million, due to inflation, rising labor costs and the expense of disposing of low-level waste. Bill Linnell of the Committee for a Safe Energy Future says the cost will be closer to $1.5 billion, once site cleanup and the disposal of high-level waste are factored into the equation.
