Abstract

"City" piece on a signature and donation drive launched by local teens, who hope to help entrepreneur Mike Whittaker keep the Fine Arts community art center open. According to the Portland Press Herald, Portland police chief Mike Chitwood said his officers instigated a recent inspection by the city's fire and code enforcement departments because they suspect drug use at the theater. Whittaker is willing to make compromises, but has lost $4,000 over the last seven months and said he can't keep the theater open any longer without some cooperation and financial help.
