Abstract

"City" piece on the dismissal of Darren Thomas by the Portland YMCA about five months after his unsuccesful 1998 attempt to convince his fellow workers to join the Teamsters union. According to Marvin Bernstein, a field examiner with the National Labor Relations Board in Boston, Thomas filed an unlawful labor charge against his former employer, but later withdrew it. Peter Kraft, attorney for the YMCA, denied Thomas was fired for union organizing.
