Abstract
"City" piece on the U.S. Postal Service's distribution facility, which earlier appeared headed for the Lewiston-Auburn area. Portland city councilor Tom Kane says the post office is now considering a 58-acre site on Stroudwater Street in Westbrook. Originally, the plant was to be built on a parcel of land off Rand Road in Portland, but that plan was scuttled because of traffic and environmental concerns. The Westbrook property is owned by the Snyder family, who also partially own the Rand Road site, and is valued at $111,100. According to Godfrey Wood, president of the Greater Portland Chambers of Commerce, post office officials are looking at five or six properties close to Portland.
