Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on corporate downsizing and benefit packages, which depend on how high up workers are on the corporate food chain. With special focus on a preservation technician laid off by Bath Iron Works; an administrator laid off by Unum; a production worker and local union chapter vice president laid off by Carleton Woolen Mills; and two different generations of paper mill workers who lost their jobs at Sappi. With comments by Christopher St. John, director of the Maine Center for Economic Policy.
