Abstract

"City" piece on an expansion planned by Portland's Mercy Hospital. Preliminary plans include a four-story office and parking garage, moving the State Street facade out 20 feet to the sidewalk, adding a sixth floor to one-half of the hospital and running a skywalk between the hospital and the garage. With details about previous expansion projects at the hospital and neighbors who say the hospital has a poor track record when it comes to involving the community in their design decisions.
