Abstract
"City" piece on Matthew's Lounge in Portland, which has had only a handful of liquor law violations and a small number of neighborhood complaints. But on Oct. 2, the City Council refused to renew the bar's liquor license based on a recommendation from the Portland Police Department (PPD). That has some bar owners concerned the PPD might be engaging in "a witch hunt" designed to dry up watering holes that have earned their disapproval. Mayor Cheryl Leeman, the lone dissenter, has also voiced concerns over the issue.
