Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on Ric Weinschenk, a Portland developer who has been praised for his imaginative home designs. But Weinschenk has also had problems with city and state officials and unhappy homeowners in at least four major subdivisions he has developed in Portland since 1993. Weinschenk, 52, a native of New York moved to Maine from Vermont in 1983 and since then has designed and developed Elizabeth Farms, Cottage Park, Willow, Redlon Park and Summer Place, all in the Greater Portland area. Assistant Attorney General Linda Conti said she has received 15 complaints from different homeowners about Weinschenk, alleging his homes are below average and poorly constructed with significant settling, leaks and cracks in finished surfaces.
