Abstract

Maine received $27,646 of a $7.2 million national settlement with the Keds Corporation for alleged price fixing of women's athletic shoes. The money will go to a coalition of 10 projects that help battered women. Direct distribution of the money to consumers was not possible because there was no way of identifying the Keds purchasers. Maine Attorney General Michael Carpenter decided which Maine charities would receive the cash.
