Abstract
"City" piece on Portland's St. Dominic Church and girls' school. The Portland West Neighborhood Planning Council, the People's Regional Opportunity Program (PROP) and the state chapter of the AFL-CIO are discussing submitting a joint proposal to renovate the complex into a neighborhood center and affordable housing. Last year, the city purchased the church, built in 1893, and school, built in 1895, from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland for $50,000. In March, the city asked for proposals for using the buildings, generating about 50 inquiries.
