Abstract
"City" piece on the Portland Public Market, which is supposed to be dedicated to promoting and selling local food. But as the market's original vendors depart, the replacements, many of them owned by the market, are relying on out-of-state sources for their inventory. The latest example is Public Seafood, the market-owned seafood cafe and retailer that replaced Hanson Bros. Seafood. Public buys some of its fish from Sysco Food Services, a major North American food and beverage distributor.
