Abstract

"City" piece on the Center for Cultural Exchange in Portland, which is renting its facilities to Nike Inc., for the corporation's annual shareholders' meeting on Sept. 17. Oregon-based Nike, which owns Cole Haan shoe company of Yarmouth, is a footwear and apparel company known for its exploitation of workers in sweatshops across the globe. Spokesmen for Mainers Against Globalization, the Maine Clean Clothes Campaign and the Maine AFL-CIO say they expect their groups to protest the meeting with demonstrations.
