Abstract
"City" piece on The Rev. Steven Kelly, 52, a Jesuit priest and anti-war activist who is being held at the Cumberland County Jail for violating the terms of his probation by participating in a 1999 action in which he and four other members of the activist group Swords to Plowshares broke into a U.S. National Guard base in Maryland to protest the military's use of depleted uranium in weaponry. Kelly's probation was set after a 1997 protest, when he and six others boarded an Aegis destroyer at Bath Iron Works, damaged equipment and spilled their own blood on the ship.
