Abstract
"City" piece on arrests in Portland's Western Prom area where undercover police officers are engaged in a new crackdown on men cruising for anonymous sex. Those being arrested in this round of stings are not being charged under the city's anti-cruising ordinance. Instead, in response to ongoing complaints about inappropriate activities in the area after 10 p.m., they're being booked on criminal trespassing charges for being in a park after closing time. But David Garrity, a former president of the Maine Lesbian Gay Political Alliance, said police are targeting gay men while ignoring heterosexual couples.
