Abstract
"City" piece on a proposal being considered by the Portland School Committee that would implement a pay scale for school administrators, which is a move that would almost certainly result in pay raises. Michelle Hedrich, chair of the committee, said central-office employees were the only ones in the school system without a wage scale and, as a result, some administrators make less than the people they supervise. The six central-office administrators make less than $75,000 annually, while the wage for a high school principal with eight years' experience is more than $79,000, Hedrich said. With comments by several committee members and Superintendent of Schools Mary Jo O'Connor.
