Abstract
"City" piece on a proposal by Bruce McGorrill, a member of Portland's Cable TV Advisory Committee, who wanted the group to send a letter to Time Warner of Maine asking the company not to raise its cable rates in 2002. Due to opposition from other committee members and city councilors Cheryl Leeman and Jay Hibbard at the groups Dec. 19 meeting, the proposal never came to a formal vote. Leeman and Hibbard argued that sending such a letter exceeded the groups authority. Following the meeting, McGorrill and school committee member Herb Adams drafted and sent a letter of their own, asking Time Warner to hold off on increases.
