Abstract

"City" piece on a pay raise that is being proposed for Peter Crichton, the Cumberland County manager. Officials won't say how much they want to increase Crichton's salary, but he is currently earning $72,000 annually for managing a county with a population of a quarter-million people and a $23 million budget. Based on a 40-hour week, Crichton's hourly pay is $34.61, compared to an average of $43.54 per hour for city managers in larger towns, according to the Maine Municipal Association.
