Abstract

"City" piece on a Freedom of Information Act request filed by Casco Bay Weekly (CBW) seeing the amount paid by the city of Portland to settle suits, threats of suits and court decisions against the Portland Police Department. Gary Wood, the city's lawyer, recently sent CBW a letter advising that the data from 1988 to 1991 is not readily accessible due to changes in computer systems and record keeping and estimated it would take 10 hours of staff time to retrieve the numbers and would cost CBW a $200 fee.
