Abstract

"City" piece on the Portland Police Department's activities log. On Feb. 25, for the first time in several years, the department released a weekly log. But the 28-page list contained no names and bore little resemblance to what the city's lawyer, Gary Wood, had promised on Feb. 8. Beth Poliquin, the department's lawyer, claims the department doesn't maintain an internal list of arrestees, and it doesn't have to create one for the public. But in late January, Chief Michael Chitwood indicated the department does maintain arrest reports. Wood said if the city council agrees to make arrests public information, an additional weekly report, containing names, will be released. He expects a decision by March 1.
