Abstract
"City" piece on the Maine People's Alliance (MPA), which has just started its outreach efforts to promote a single-payer health-care system for Maine with a training session on how to promote the concept to the public. Under a single-payer system, MPA says everybody would get fair and equal medical treatment and prescription drugs paid for with tax dollars, Mainers would save at least $300 million in health-care expenses, and prescription drug costs would plummet. MPA also said the overhead for health-insurance companies ranges from 9 to 30 percent, while the state's Medicaid overhead is only 5 percent.
