Abstract
New businesses, from theaters to restaurants to nightclubs, are opening up in areas of Portland that are largely untested. Leading the pack in openings is the Upper Congress Street area, bounded by Longfellow Square, Free Street, City Hall and Cumberland Avenue. The Arts District, as the area has been dubbed by some, offers cheap studio space and the potential for numerous art students traipsing in and out of a renovated Porteous building. Some observers are wondering whether a new Old Port is in the making. Details.
