Abstract

"Newsreal" piece on U.S. represenative Olympia Snowe's condemnation of the Concerned Maine Families campaign against gay rights. Snowe apparently opposes the referendum because it removes local control and repeals the state's hate crimes law, not because of a belief that discrimination against gays and lesbians is wrong. Snowe, who is running for the U.S. Senate against U.S. represenative Tom Andrews, has a poor voting record when it comes to legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives of importance to gays and lesbians.
