Abstract
The medical staff of Maine Medical Center on September 9 voted 80-79 against a merger with Brighton Medical Center. Less than one-third of Maine Med's 506 doctors participated in the vote, and another vote will be scheduled. Objections to the merger stem from the fact that Brighton is dominated by osteopathic doctors, called D.O.s, whose training differs from the training undertaken by traditional M.D.s.
