Abstract

"Newsreal" piece on derivatives, the risky investment instruments that have acquired an almost mystical aura. The Government Finance Officers Association has warned public officials about derivatives, and most public agencies in Maine don't use them. The city of Auburn and the Maine Turnpike do, and they suggest that others are doing taxpayers a disservice by following suit. Details.
