Abstract
Denise Hartford and Diane Moody are two of the women on the construction crew building the Portland-South Portland Bridge. Hartford was introduced to the construction trade by Women Unlimited, a private, nonprofit corporation established in 1988 that recruits, trains and places women in trade and technical jobs. Founded by state senator Dale McCormick and funded by grants from the state departments of Education and Transportation, Women Unlimited has introduced over 250 women to nontraditional occupations. The MDOT has made the bridge a model project for introducing women to the trades. Details.
