Abstract
The state Medicaid program provided free rides for heroin addicts to two methadone treatment facilities in South Portland until August 1, when notification was given that the rides from the People's Regional Opportunity Program and Regional Transportation Program would end immediately. Medicaid administrator Brenda McCormick says methadone treatment is not covered by Medicaid, so PROP and RTP could not be reimbursed for providing transportation. Part of the reason for the cut in services was a decision by the Maine Legislature to cut $500,000 from the $11 million Medicaid transportation budget. Details.
