Abstract
State senator Dale McCormick has withdrawn her bill to outlaw discrimination against gays and lesbians, citing the recent campaign to defeat referendum Question One. Gay rights supporters have been concerned that they lacked sufficient votes in the Maine House to pass McCormick's legislation. A measure sponsored by state senator Georgette Berube would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual in a few cases while legalizing it in others. No decision has been made on whether the Berube bill will be withdrawn.
