Abstract
Guilford Transportation of Massachusetts owns a 40-acre parcel on West Commercial Street between the Portland Bridge and the Merrill Marine Terminal. Permitted uses on the land are limited to marine construction, ship building, cargo handling and related enterprises. Guilford last month proposed building a $25-million mall on the property, and suggested anchoring the retail and restaurant complex with the proposed Gulf of Maine Aquarium. City officials deny having any contact with Guilford, and aquarium developers are most interested in locating the facility at the foot of Munjoy Hill. Details.
