Abstract
Feature article on snowshoeing the Bigelow Mountain Range, which is embraced by Flagstaff Lake and spans the 35,000-acre Bigelow Preserve in western Maine. The large swath of public land was created by referendum in 1976 as a grassroots response to a proposal to develop the area into a ski resort.
