    Abstract

"The Talk of Maine" piece on the negative campaign ads that blanketed the state during the elections of 2002, noting that the attack ads were so poorly done that they frequently backfired, and pointing out that the candidates themselves had no control over the content of the attack ads which were funded exclusively with "soft money." With special focus on the political contests between Bill Pinkham and Dennis Damon, Michael Michaud and Kevin Raye, and Chris Hall and Leslie Fosel.
