Abstract
Article on the generations-old community tradition of Friday night football in Skowhegan, where hometown spirit brings more than half the town's population to cheer on the Fighting Indians of Skowhegan Area High School. Terry Michaud, athletic director for MSAD 54, said that football is a huge entertainment factor in the town, noting that many set their weekly schedule around the school's sports schedule. Unlike other communities, where parents lose interest once their children graduate, Skowhegan residents remain loyal and proud of their school. With comments by Mike Adams, father of a football player and a former player himself; Bob LeCours, head coach; and Mike Beauregard, a defensive lineman who hopes to one day become a teacher in Skowhegan.
