Abstract

"Along the Waterfront" piece reporting that the greatest amount of waterborne activity in Maine occurs inland on the state's 3,000 great ponds, totaling nearly a million acres, and on the states 32,000 miles of rivers and streams. Veteran boating editor-writer Dave Gatchell Sr., recommends that the best way to seek out a water retreat is to consult a DeLorme's "Maine Atlas, which pinpoints watercraft put-in sites on seventy detailed maps depicting the state in small segments. Gatchell also recommends "Public Boat Access, which lists some 304 state-sponsored and assisted boat launching sites, the majority of them on inland waters.
