Abstract

"North by East" piece on Wood Elf, a Jonesport-based business run by Shona Monroe that sells locally cut birch logs through the Internet in small, perfectly trimmed bundles that are then shipped nationally. Monroe said most requests for the firewood, which is used for decorative purposes only, come from Florida and California, and have been featured in photo shoots and at high-end resorts. Packages range from three sixteen-inch logs for $19.95 to nine twenty-inch logs for $41.95.
