    Abstract

    "North by East" piece on World Wide Language Resources in Rumford, which supervises almost 500 subcontractors working in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other countries. The relative isolation of Rumford is an advantage when it comes to security concerns. President Larry Costa, who had vacationed in Andover, founded the company after retiring from a career in the Special Forces. Demand for services exploded after Sept. 11, 2001. Most of the Rumford office employees are Oxford County residents.
