Abstract
"North by East" piece reporting that Aroostook County has finally had some good economic news following two gloomy years anticipating the demise of Loring Air Force Base in Limestone by this September, thus eliminating 8,500 jobs, $152 million a year in earnings, and 20 percent of Aroostook County's economic base. The good new relates to the recent announcements that the base will be the new home of a Defense Finance and Accounting Center, a Job Corps site, and possibly several other new employers. Limestone has also been selected as the site of the state's first magnet school, which will open in September 1995, to 350 students from across the state.
