Abstract

Article on Louesa Gillespie's oriental shade garden at "Mayfair," along the Shore Road in Ogunquit. Gillespie, manager of the Beachmere resort, has gardened for thirty years on the lot that she and her husband, Donald, bought in the 1960s. The garden is a mix of free-form beds of perennials under a canopy of tall scrub pines and birches. The vertical garden also features a ninety-year-old climbing hydrangea and a pond.
