Abstract

Frank Ladner reminisces about the summers he spent as a bellhop from 1937-1941 at the St. Sauveur Hotel in Bar Harbor and the nearby Newport House, grand hotels that are now gone. He describes the gentility and customs of a pre-war era that was already in decline by the time he took his first job.
